Sunday 21st March, Grey Gums Oval, Cranebrook / Saturday 27th March, Wright Reserve, Quakers Hill Well we have had a really strong start to the season with 4 games already and plenty of guys turning up. The first game at Penrith and the second at Quakers Hill were very hot, day time matches which really tested the ticker. Plenty of water was consumed during the game and a bit of beer after. Play on both occasions started out intense and with bursting enthusiasm. Breathtakingly fast, with lightning bursts of speed and leaping high marks. Then the last 3 quarters most of us had trouble breaking into a walk. Both games were well attended with 40 guys pulling the boots on at both grounds. Saturday 9th April, Wright Reserve, Quakers Hill Our 3rd game at Wright Reserve on a Friday night, under lights, was a much better performance. Again we had 40 men keen to play and the cooler conditions allow the guys to show their skills off better. John Reece had a strong match and Tim Costello took some great marks. The highlight, I thought, was Rodney Vinnecombe’s 5 goals 1, even though he stole one off Paul Gow – watch him Paul! Great defence work from Jason Toman and good hands in the forwards from Paul Smith made the blue team strong at both ends of the field. Steve Sheil ran all night and won some great ball in the centre for the yellow as did Tony Pianta for the blue. We have a new award – The Mug of the Day – kindly donated and engraved by Steve Sheil. The Mug of the Day – Phil Scandizza – for overplaying the best falcon of the day and nearly ending up doing a back flip. Sunday 18th April, Bensons Lane, Richmond The game was arranged late, so it was not well promoted. Thus the attendance was down, but we managed 15 per side at Bensons Lane on Sunday morning. Once again the guys were enthusiastic and the teams were pretty evenly matched. This week Jason Toman and Paul Smith were on opposite teams and contested well. Rowdy is moving more freely and took some good grabs up front. Michael Jeffery has plenty of run and fed Tony Pianta, Jeff Kettle and Browny well for the yellows. Once again Steve Sheil hardly broke into a sweat as him and Les Cass broke down each flank for blue. Lui Lister and John Reece, along with Brett Arnold were all strong and Cain Laoumtzis ran heaps. John Saint-Barry was a stand-out, as always and Anthony Kininjjew took a couple of blinders. Thanks to Jason McGraw for doing a great job umpiring and forgoing his fee. The Mug of the Day – Les Cass – who tried to kick a goal at both ends in the one quarter. The Rainman
