Sunday June 5th, Greygums Oval Print E-mail

Well we got the game in on a Sunday arvo and it was a great game.  We ended up with 15 a side and that was ok because it is a small ground and the conditions were pretty good as well, a bit slippery under foot as a lot of guys found but, all in all, pretty good.

Both teams were pretty well matched with a few first timers in both sides along with the smattering of more seasoned guys.  For the black team Grimmo marked well and kicked a couple of goals, definitely looking a little thinner than earlier in the year.  Graham and Tim went well  and Peter Bradley played the best game I have seen him play, taking marks kicking and good general disposal in play.  got a couple of falcons as well, one directly off the boot.  The black team had 2 new guys to us,  one of whom is now I think a soccer convert.  He got a number of kicks in general play and took a couple of marks.  Graham played his usual good game all over the field, causing a bit of havoc.  Brownie went well with he and Scotty Bond competing for the ball and I do think that although he is a bit short of a run, Brownie got the upper hand on a few occasions in their duels.

For the blue team Shane could not earn a kick anywhere, no matter what he did and he covered plenty of ground.  Steve and Daryl combined well with Jimmy on a number of occasions and got the ball moving with smart accurate handball and short kicks.  Chris played a great game up forward and took a number of marks, both on the chest and overhead and then converted about 3 or 4 times.  Have not seen him play a better game since he joined us this year. The bride was there today, maybe that spurred him on.

Everybody deserves a mention today because there were a number of very good passages of play.  I think everybody got a plenty of touches and a lot of goals kicked by both teams.  Darren could not earn a kick no matter what he did and Rowdy reckons he got a finger to every ball that the opposition was awarded a goal for.  The whole game was played in the correct manner, that being, FOOTY FOR FUN, and I am sure you all enjoyed yourselves.
